Special Policy Update: New CDC Opioid Guidelines Proposed

On February 3, 2022 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a draft of new opioid prescribing guidelines for comment.

In my November 2021 post, Prescribing Restrictions Causing Harm to Chronic Pain Endurers, I detailed how misinterpretation of the 2016 CDC opioid prescribing guidelines devastate the lives of countless people who have chronic pain.

Sources such as Pain News Network and MedPage Today report that the new proposed guidelines are much clearer and take into account vital concerns expressed by both patients and medical providers.

Public comment can be made through the Federal Register website, where you can also access the proposed guidelines, until April 11, 2022.
